The Member of Parliament (MP) for Asokwa and Deputy Majority Leader, Hon. Patricia Appiagyei, has called on government and other stakeholders to develop a proper implementation strategy for the Affirmative Action Law, which seeks to place not less than thirty percent of women in leadership positions.
Commenting on a statement made by the Atwima Nwabiagya South MP, Hon. Shirley Kyei, to mark Africa Women’s Day, Hon. Appiagyei called for a clear plan to ensure the law works.
She said women should also be given the chance to contribute to the nation’s development.
“Now in Ghana, we say we have passed the Affirmative Action Law. How are we implementing it? It is important that we come up with a clear map of how we are going to do it,” she said.
She added that women should be able to fill leadership roles in each of the major sectors of the economy, where critical decisions about the nation’s well-being are made.
“It is important that each and every sector has a way of contributing and ensuring that at least thirty percent of our women are involved in taking critical decisions and are in leadership roles,” she added.
