The Member of Parliament for Bekwai Constituency, Ralph Poku-Adusei, has officially handed over a fully renovated and retooled Queen Elizabeth II Day Nursery School, bringing a major transformation to one of the constituency’s oldest educational institutions.
The ceremony, held on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, at the school’s premises in Bekwai, marked a significant milestone in improving early childhood education infrastructure in the area.
Established in 1954, the Queen Elizabeth II Day Nursery had reportedly gone over seven decades without any major renovation. The facility, according to the MP, had deteriorated into a poor state, with children using outdated furniture, pit latrines, and inadequate learning materials.

Speaking at the event, Hon. Poku-Adusei himself an alumnus of the school recounted his emotional visit to the facility prior to the renovation, describing it as “frozen in time.”
He noted that the poor learning environment did not reflect the standard of education children deserve and questioned how young pupils could be inspired to dream big under such conditions.
The renovation project, funded through the MP’s share of the District Assemblies Common Fund and personal contributions, has introduced significant improvements to the school.
The upgrades includes, Newly renovated and child-friendly classrooms, Modern furniture suitable for early learners, Improved kitchen facilities, Proper toilet systems to replace pit latrines, Teaching and learning materials, Playground equipment to enhance physical and cognitive development
Hon. Poku-Adusei emphasized that the project was not an act of charity but a fulfillment of responsibility and gratitude to the institution that shaped him.
He charged the Municipal Education Directorate, teachers, and community members to maintain the facility and ensure it does not fall into neglect again.
“To the teachers and authorities, maintain it and protect it. Let us not wait another 72 years,” he urged.
He also encouraged parents to actively support their children’s education, stressing that while government can build schools, communities play a critical role in raising responsible individuals.

The Bekwai MP used the occasion to call on fellow leaders to prioritize foundational education, noting that national development must begin from early childhood.
“Development is not only roads and markets. It is also the classroom where a child first learns to write their name,” he stated.
He expressed gratitude to stakeholders including the Municipal Assembly, the Education Directorate, PTA, and contractors for their contributions to the project.
As he officially handed over the facility, Hon. Poku-Adusei said the renovation represents a renewed commitment to the vision upon which the school was founded.
“Queen Elizabeth Nursery was established in 1954 to build a nation. Today, in 2026, we renew that promise,” he declared.
The upgraded facility is expected to significantly improve learning conditions and inspire a new generation of pupils in Bekwai and beyond.
