Third Prosecution Witness Withdrawn — Wontumi Forest Case Sees Shift in Trial Strategy

The ongoing Tano Nimiri Forest case involving Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Chairman Wontumi, has taken a dramatic turn after the third prosecution witness was withdrawn from the witness box.

Speaking after proceedings at the Accra High Court, counsel for Chairman Wontumi, Lawyer Andy Appiah Kubi, revealed that the prosecution had decided to merge the testimony of two key witnesses.

“The prosecution indicated that they would combine the evidence of the Forestry officer and the police investigator into one testimony for cross-examination,” he stated.

According to Lawyer Appiah Kubi, the court will also examine the credibility of documents already presented as evidence in the case.

“All documents presented in court would also be verified to establish their authenticity and validity,” he added.

He further described the trial as one that is becoming increasingly intriguing, insisting that developments in court have raised significant legal questions.

“The case is becoming increasingly interesting,” Lawyer Appiah Kubi noted, adding that “the accused persons have already tendered evidence in support of the prosecution’s case during proceedings at the Accra High Court.”
