For nearly twenty years, I have enjoyed political conversations with an old man called Agya Kwadwo Mensah, whose strategic instincts I deeply respect.
Recently, he asked me a question that has stayed with me:
“Why must the NPP choose between Boakye Agyarko and John Boadu when the party can benefit from the strengths of both?”
Boakye Agyarko brings intellectual depth, political maturity, calm leadership and a strong appreciation of policy, party tradition and the values that define the NPP.
John Boadu brings formidable organisational experience, an intimate knowledge of the grassroots, mastery of party structures and proven election-management abilities.
“So, why not make Boakye Agyarko National Chairman and deploy John Boadu as Campaign Manager for Election 2028?” Agya Kwadwo asked.
His proposition was neither an attack on nor a rejection of either man. It was the wisdom of a strategist who understands that elections are won by combining strengths, not dividing them.
And the ultimate beneficiary would be Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP’s presidential candidate for 2028.
Bawumia as Flagbearer, Boakye Agyarko as National Chairman and John Boadu as Campaign Manager: a formidable dream team built around intellectual leadership, grassroots organisation and electoral experience.
The trio of the Flagbearer, the National Chairman and the Campaign Manager represents a deadly combination along with a well grounded Chief Executive of the party, the General Secretary, the party structures will be oiled and fired up in a manner the NDC will find difficult to match!
Could this be the strategic balance the NPP needs to unite, reorganise and win in 2028?
