We Will Come After Any Pastor Who Makes Bigotry Comments Against NPP- Ayew Afriyie

The Member of Parliament(MP) for Effiduase-Asokore, Hon Dr Nana Ayew Afriyie has said the party will not tolerate any anti-religious statements by any Pastor against the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

His comments were based on a response to Wontumi Tv’s Oheneba Aseidu when he quizzed the MP on what the party will do when any Pastor in the country makes viral religious claims about the party’s presidential candidate.

“We will come after any Pastor who insults NPP, because our culture as Ghanaians does not have insults. If anybody harasses you for a long time and you do not talk about it, he uses it as leverage to walk over you,” he said.

He said Ghana’s Constitution allows for anybody to stand for election and does not discriminate between religions.

“Our Constitution is universal, it gives room for anybody to stand for election, once the person is Ghanaian and pays his taxes. It doesn’t matter whether you are a Buddhist or any other religion,” he stated.

The MP referenced the United States of America(USA) where President JF Kennedy became the first Catholic President in the country after campaigns had earlier being mounted against a Catholic President.

He said JF Kennedy was able to surmount that pressure and made history stating Ghana has a similar problem, one which will end in 2028.
