President John Dramani Mahama has made further changes to his government, less than three weeks after announcing his first major ministerial reshuffle of 2026.
Under the new changes announced by the Presidency on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, Minister for Labour, Employment and Job Creation, Abdul-Rashid Pelpuo, has been reassigned as Minister of State for Special Initiatives.
He will be replaced at the Labour Ministry by Emmanuel Kwadwo Agyekum, who previously served as Minister of State for Special Initiatives.
The President has also reassigned Deputy Minister for Defence, Ernest Brogya Genfi, to the Presidency as Presidential Adviser on National Resilience and Emergency Preparedness.
“The changes take immediate effect”, a statement signed by the President’s Spokesperson and Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, said.
The latest changes come barely three weeks after President Mahama announced a major reshuffle on August 7.
That reshuffle followed the deaths of Defence Minister Edward Omane Boamah, Environment Minister Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed and others in a military helicopter crash in the Ashanti Region on August 6.
The President subsequently nominated Klottey Korle Member of Parliament Dr Zanetor Agyemang-Rawlings as Minister for Environment, Science and Technology and Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga as Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs.
He also reassigned Kenneth Gilbert Adjei from the Ministry of Works, Housing and Water Resources to the Defence Ministry, while Ahmed Ibrahim was moved from Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs to the Works, Housing and Water Resources Ministry.
