Family Announces Final Burial Date For Late Singer Yaw Sarpong

The family of the late veteran Ghanaian gospel singer, Yaw Sarpong, has shared details of the final funeral arrangements for the musician.

In a video shared on social media, the family announced that there will be a wake-keeping for the late singer on May 8, 2026, at Asuofua Town Park.

They added that the funeral and burial ceremony will be held on May 9, 2026, at the same venue.

“We have planned that there will be a wake-keeping for Yaw Sarpong on May 8. The funeral and burial ceremony will be held on May 9, 2026, at Asuofua Town Park.

“On May 10, there will be a thanksgiving service at Sokoban, and after the church service, the family will meet to account for all expenses incurred during the funeral service,” the family said.

They also invited all Ghanaians and sympathisers to support them as they give the late gospel singer his final farewell.

“We therefore invite all Ghanaians and sympathisers to attend and support us as we give our beloved Yaw Sarpong a final farewell,” they added.

The late Yaw Sarpong passed away on January 20, 2026, after succumbing to an illness he had been battling for some time.

His death was confirmed by artiste manager Nana Poku Ashis.

Yaw Sarpong had been in the music industry for nearly five decades, releasing his first album, “Adesrede”, in 1981.

He went on to compose several hit songs, including “Awurade Kasa”, “Tie Obiaa”, and “Wo Haw Ne Sen”.

He also founded the Asomafo gospel group, a group that helped shape the sound and impact of Akan gospel music in Ghana.
