The Second Vice Chairman-elect of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti Region, Chairman Addai-Opoku Aikins, has said the current regional executives, led by Odeneho Kwaku Appiah (COKA), will make unity their primary target.
Speaking on the Privilege Morning Show on Wontumi TV, the former Bosomtwe constituency chairman, now a regional vice chairman, said the party has undergone several difficult transformations in recent years many of which have made it unpopular, particularly in the Ashanti Region, a factor he cited as a reason the party lost the 2024 election.
According to him, many people were aggrieved and, as a result, did not turn out to vote. He said he experienced this firsthand while touring the region’s 47 constituencies.
“There have been changes in the various constituencies. Other people have joined, and their main concerns were the divisions within the party,” he said.
He added that he had already heard about these problems, but that touring the constituencies confirmed how real they were.
As a result, the chairman stated that every possible action would be taken by the current administration to foster unity “even if they have to beg,” he said, insisting that “the primary mission of this current administration is unity.”
The unity drive by the newly elected executives forms part of a broader effort by the party to strengthen its structures. The Ashanti Region, regarded as the NPP’s strongest base, is seen as a special region, with the party making significant efforts to support its growth there.
