Bail Conditions for Sammy Gyamfi Will Be “Scary” in Future – Afenyo-Markin

The Minority in Parliament, led by their leader Hon. Afenyo-Markin, has described as “scary” the bail conditions likely to be imposed on GoldBod CEO Sammy Gyamfi should he in future be arrested and questioned by EOCO over the alleged loss of GH¢20 billion by the Board.

He made this known during a press conference organised by the caucus in Parliament, drawing comparisons with earlier arrests in corruption scandals. He said individuals in the NPP have been given far worse bail conditions for sums nowhere close to the reported GoldBod losses.

“If someone who has been called out by the Attorney-General over financial misappropriation of GH¢3 million or GH¢5 million is being asked to present valuable properties as sureties for bail when arrested by EOCO, then GoldBod CEO’s [bail conditions] will be scary,” he said.

He said the scale of the losses was significant, adding: “GH¢22 billion by GoldBod what money are we going to use for bail?”

The Minority Leader accused the NDC of hypocrisy, saying the party had been “constantly harassing” its members over corruption-related activities, “but they couldn’t even sell gold.”

The caucus is demanding answers from GoldBod after the International Monetary Fund (IMF) reported significant losses in the Board’s operations over the past year.
