Afoko Declares Bid for NPP Chairmanship, Outlines Vision for Party

Former National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Paul Awentami Afoko, has officially declared his bid to contest for the party’s Chairmanship, citing reorganization, unity, and women’s development among his key priorities.

Speaking to the media on Tuesday, July 14, Mr. Afoko said the party needs a leader who is not entitled but selfless enough to lead with compassion and discipline.

“As National Chairman, I will be a team player, but at the same time I will be a field commander, a reconciler, an organizer, a fundraiser, a disciplinarian, a listener, and a servant of the party,” he said.

Mr. Afoko added that the party’s opportunity to serve Ghana is ripe. “The NPP has the right opportunity to return to government, if we do the right things,” he said.

“Ghana remains a country of enterprise, talent, energy, and ambition. Our people want jobs, our traders want relief, our businesses want stability, our farmers want support,” he said.

He said the NPP is the party best placed to help Ghana reach its full potential, describing it as “always a party of opportunity” and “the party of private initiative.”

Women’s development featured prominently among the priorities Mr. Afoko outlined. He said the party’s future will only be bright when women are given full room to contribute their quota.

“No serious renewal of the NPP can take place without women at the centre of it,” he said. “Women are good and great organizers, women are communicators, women are business leaders, women are professionals, and we have them all over.”

He assured that women will be treated with respect and placed at the core of the party, taking part in its growth and restructuring.

“As National Chairman, I will work to ensure that women are not treated as an appendix or an afterthought to the party agenda, but as a central pillar of party organization, policy engagement, and fundraising,” he said.

Mr. Afoko also stressed his intention to serve as Chairman for the whole NPP, not a particular faction. Citing Dr. Bawumia’s candidature, he said just as the flag bearer represents everyone, he too would serve as Chairman for all.

“When I’m given the honour to serve as Chairman, I will be Chairman for the entire NPP from Axim to Bawku, from Ho to Wa, from Kumasi to Tamale, and across every constituency of this country,” he said.
