5 Arrested Over Butchering Of Alleged Witch In Sumpini
The Savannah Regional Police Command has arrested five persons in connection with the alleged attack on Madam Meri Ibrahim, a 60 year old at Sumpini near Busunu in the West Gonja municipality of the Savannah Region.
The woman was accused of being a witch.
The five suspects arrested include three males and two females.
The Savannah Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Sergeant Agyakum Owusu who confirmed the arrests said suspects were arrested at their hideout in the Sumpini community.
According to him, the victim gave the names of her attackers to the police which led to the arrests.
He indicated that the suspects were in police custody in Damongo and will be arraigned before court after investigations.
Sergeant Owusu however revealed that some of the suspects on police list were on the run and called on residents to assist police with information to arrest them.
Madam Meri Ibrahim, a 60 year old alleged witch was attacked and butchered by residents in sumpini near Busunu in the West Gonja municipality of the Savannah Region.
She sustained severe cutlass wounds and is in critical condition at the Damongo hospital receiving medical attention.
DGN Online gathered that the victim is alleged to have attempted to kill a young man in the area, hence the attack.
Madam Meri in a video narrated that she and two other women in the sumpini community were accused of witchcraft.
According to her, the two other women were able to flee from the community to avoid any attacks.
Madam Meri, disclosed that she was at home when some residents came and accused her of being a witch of which she denied but that did not stop the residents from attacking her with cutlasses and other dangerous objects.
She said her house was ransacked and properties destroyed by the residents.
