The erstwhile government of former President John Dramani Mahama, spent a whopping amount of $70million on toilet roll importation, the deputy minister of Trade and Industry, Robert Ahomka-Lindsay, has disclosed.
Currently, the administration of President Akufo-Addo, according to the Minister has saved the nation by empowering factories through the 1 District 1 Factory (1D1F) policy to produce tissue papers in Ghana and sanctioning all government agencies to buy locally produced tissue papers including toilet rolls.
Speaking on the Wontumi Morning Show which was monitored by Wontumionline.com, Mr. Ahomka-Lindsay mentioned that “we used to spend $70 million on the importation of toilet rolls” adding that “today with 1d1f, we make them here”.
It would be recalled that last year, Vice President Dr. Bawumia, gave a directive on behalf of President Akufo-Addo to all government institutions to buy locally produced toilet papers.
He gave the directive when he toured the Brompton Portfolio’s toilet paper manufacturing factory located at the Nsawam Prisons in the Eastern Region on Friday, September 27.
Brompton Portfolio employs the labour of prisoners in a profit-sharing arrangement under the One District One Factory (1D1F) initiative.
