Zoomlion Embarks On Another Nationwide COVID-19 Disinfection—As Schools Readies For 2021 Academic Year
In line wirh President Akufo-Addo’s directive that all schools in the country should begin for the 2021-2022 academic calendar year, waste management giants, Zoomlion Ghana Limited and ministry of education have began another nationwide covid-19 disinfection exercise in academic institutions across the country in readiness to receive students this month.
The exercise is expected to fend off any traces of covid-19 virus and make the schools safe for teaching and leaning.
The Central region was not left out of the exercise.
Mr. Gideon Sogbey, the Central Regional vector manager of Zoomlion Ghana Limited explained that 1,500 spray operatives,200 foggers and a number of atomizers were deployed across the region to disinfect 11 private and public education institutions.
The disinfection exercise according to him will take three days to complete.
Some of the schools that would benefit from the covid-19 disinfection includes university of cape coast, ola nursing training school, school of education, Winneba and Komenda College of Education among others.
At Komenda College of Education located in the Komenda, Edina, Aguafo, Abirim district of the Central region, the company deployed spray operatives and boom sprayers to disinfect the school environment including lecture halls and house of residence.
The Very Reverend Kwesi Nkum Wilson, the principal of Komenda College in an interview said that lecture halls, house of residence are being expanded and renovated to accommodate the extra 192 first year students that are expected to enroll in the facility.
The Veronica buckets the government gave the school in the previous disinfection exercise according to the Principal of Komenda Education College would be used when the school re-opens adding that more personal protection equipment, he said, would be procured for the school.
The vocational department of the school, the very Reverend Nkum Wilson added, will produce liquid soap, detergents and disinfectants for the use of the school.
Due to the expansion of the facilities in the school, he said, students would not be crowded in dormitories and lecture halls as social distancing and other covid-19 would be adhered to.
He paid glowing tribute to government for the exercise as funds that would be injected into the disinfection exercise would be invested into other equally important ventures.
Major Retired Kofi Baah Bentum, the Director in charge of Public Affairs, university of cape coast in his delivery said the institution is adequately prepared to receive 8,000 students for 2021-2022 academic year.
He said the institution has built two large lecture theatres to complement existing lecture halls in lieu of the observance of social distancing and strict adherence of other covid-19 protocols.
