The Regional head of the Ashanti Regional office of Ghana Grid Company Limited [GRIDCO], has come under verbal attack for supervising the current spate of power outages recorded in several parts of Ashanti.
The frequent outages have attracted a genuine anger of residents who with hindsight, have vowed not entertain the resurgence of the ‘DUMSOR’ era ‘.
The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Bernard Antwi Boasiako who has expressed a similar sentiment has cautioned that, “Never again can it happen that the bad days of the ‘dumsor’ era will reoccur, never!”
Chairman Wontumi ,as the Ashanti Regional Chairman is fondly called , used the popular Wontumi TV and Radio platforms in Kumasi to issue a strong caution to the GRIDCO Regional Director on Thursday to as early as possible, find a lasting solution to the current frequent power outages .
“He was brought here to serve because he is considered capable of managing our power supply system and as result there cannot be any excuses from him why we should experience power cuts.” He said angrily.
Chairman Wontumi who disclosed that the irregular power supply had damaged a TV set in his office said he feels for the needy who cannot acquire stand-by power generators or afford damages caused to their appliances in the midst of the erratic power supply system.
“The GRIDCO Boss should be cautioned that the NPP is in power for the sake of the needy. The current outages can therefore not be tolerated. But they should also know that it cannot change the pattern of voting because we know it’s man made. The GRIDCO Boss knows what to do so he should do the honourable thing.”.
According to the NPP Regional Chairman the GRIDCO boss should immediately liaise with his ECG counterpart to mount a common strategy to address the challenge which the public has condemned in no uncertain terms.
The latest of the unexpected power outage, yet to be explained by the authorities occurred on Wednesday night..It was very extensive and posed a serious threat to both commercial and domestic consumers in the Kumasi Metropolis .
Yesterday’s incident came on the heels of other outages which have become almost daily occurrence leading to desperation and suspicion among the larger consuming public. For example, residents of Atwima Koforidua are suspecting that the current erratic power supply forms part of a grand scheme deliberately orchestrated to embarrass the government.
According to them, the outages follow a particular trend because on all the last two occasions that the President addressed the nation to give updates on the COVID-19 pandemic Koforidua and its environs in the Atwima Nwabiagya North District of Ashanti were plunged into total darkness.
One of the distraught residents in the town had this to say to vent his anger . “Those disruptions were timed to coincide with the President’s address on all those two occasions. The lights only came back after His Excellency had finished his delivery. This clearly exposed the intent and hidden agenda of the power distributors and their collaborators.”
