A staunch member of the New Patriotic Party, Richard Boadi Soadwa, has stated that he is least enthused by a statement by the Speaker of Parliament, Mr Alban S. K. Bagbin that sort to create an impression that he is more important than the Majority leader in Parliament.
Last Tuesday, the Speaker of Parliament, Mr. Bagbin humiliated Mr. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu by telling him that he was only a leader of government business in the House and that he (Bagbin), is the topmost official in Parliament and was also the third in line [hierarchy] as President of Ghana in the absence of the President.
But reacting to the statement by the Speaker on Wontumi TV’s Agenda 2024 show, Mr. Richard Boadi Soadwa stated that the posture by Mr. Bagbin was “totally needless”.
According to him the comment by Majority leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, on how to deal with the petition filed by the former Chief Executive Officer of the UT Bank and the founder of uniBank Ghana Limited over the revocation of the licenses of the two banks by the Bank of Ghana, shouldn’t have warranted the statement from the Speaker.
“There is a financial or banking issue at hand and the right thing has to be done that is why the Majority leader was pointing it out to him (Bagbin) yet he gave him that response…He (Bagbin) is becoming too playful with his conduct because the Majority leader was right”, Richard Boadi Soadwa said.
He cautioned that with the way the Speaker was handling issues in Parliament, it was likely they could run into trouble with the Judiciary if care was not taken.
“They shouldn’t have issues with the Judiciary else Ghana would suffer”, he warned.
