“Wontumi Reigns For Another 4 Years As NPP Chairman…Begins Reconciliation Moves.
Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as WONTUMI on Saturday swept past 4 other contestants in the Ashanti Regional Chairmanship election to retain his seat as Chairman for NPP in Ashanti.
This feat, gives the outspoken and flamboyant personality, another four year mandate to administer the NPP regional office as Chairman.
Garnering 464 votes after the polls, he left his closest pal, Odeneho Kwaku Appiah a gap of 185 votes.
Three other contestants, Messers Asare Bediako, Kwabena Owusu Aduomi and Adum Bawuah who were also in the race could only pull insignificant numbers such as 20, 9 and 3 votes respectively.
VICTORY SPEECH:
Addressing the media after the official declaration of results by the Electoral Commission, Chairman Boasiako said he was grateful to God and the delegates for the massive vote of confidence in him.
He promised to work to unite the party so that collectively they could work to break the eight year cycle of every government in Ghana.
Flanked by the other elected executives such as Patrick Acheampong, 1st Vice, Victoria Owusu-Achiaw, Second Vice, Lawyer Kwaku Adom Appiah, secretary, Allen Gyimah, assistant secretary, Hajia Zainab Sallow, treasurer, Nana Ama Ampomah, Women’s Organiser, Francis Adomako, Organiser, Raphael Patrick Sarfo, youth organiser and Saalim Mansuru Bamba, Regional Nasara Coordinator, Chairman Bosiako stressed their commitment to use the new mandate given them to unite the party and work to push up the party to retain power beyond the 2024 elections.
Speaking earlier, the Returning Officer for the Ashanti Regional executive elections, Hon Simon Osei-Mensah thanked members of the elections committee and others whose roles ensured the smooth running of the process.
He praised the EC for ensuring that the processes were transparent and peaceful.
RECONCILIATION MOVES:
Following up to his earlier reconciliatory message after the polls, Chairman Antwi Bosiako on Sunday afternoon visited some of the regional chairman aspirants including Asare Bediako and Kwabena Owusu Aduomi in their homes.
Chairman Wontumi also with his team visited the Majority Leader in Parliament, Hon Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu at his residence.
Describing the visits as successful, a member of Team Wontumi said the discussions bothered on how to collectively work as party members to rejuvenate its grassroots for victory in the 2024 General elections.
The regional chairman by this gesture, according to the team member wants to show that he was ready to lead the party to work to retain power beyond 2024.
