Wontumi Again Expresses Grave Concern About Irregular Power Supply In Ashanti – “We don’t deserve it “

Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has again issued a caution that any attempt by electricity service providers to deny consumers in Ashanti regular supply of electricity will not be countenanced.

Chairman Wontumi who apparently is suspecting a conspiracy by the service providers to create an artificial problem for consumers to have cause to blame the government issued the strong caution on Wontumi TV/Radio in Kumasi on Monday. It was during his daily commentary on some emerging trends in the political space in a live talk show programme hosted by Oheneba Nana Asiedu.

In his earlier caution about two weeks ago he specifically targeted the GRiDCO Boss in Ashanti for creating the problem. His complaint was triggered by a series of un-explained outages that created a lot of discomfort for consumers.

From Jacobu for instance, wontiumionline.com learnt that from last week Thursday up to the weekend the township was plunged into total darkness. However, when wontumionline.com conducted its last check on the situation on Saturday evening, there was still darkness – a situation which had a serious negative impact on all the funerals scheduled for the weekend.

Also in the Abuakwa area, the residents had a bad Sunday as there was a blackout of several homes which started in the forenoon up to late afternoon.. Additionally, as late as Monday, residents of the Bosore and Kenyase and their environs also complained of being plunged into darkness without any advanced notification from the service providers.

Chairman Wontumi’s latest outburst contained a strongly worded caution that never will power outages become” a new normal” in Ashanti. He promised to ensure that nothing in the likeness of the dreaded “Dumsor””, which has become a taboo word is visited on Ashanti’s electricity consumers.

When the NPP Chairman issued his first caution on Wontumi TV/Radio a fortnight ago to complain bitterly about the erratic power supply, it led to an encounter with the Regional GRiDCO boss in Kumasi.

“The Regional Boss proved friendly when he received me to explain matters. He is a nice man and we had a fruitful chat.” Chairman Wontumi, told his audience when he commented on his meeting with the GRiDCO boss about three weeks ago..

. The meeting that ensued between the two may have yielded some positive outcome as the situation improved slightly However, these past few days have seen a recurrence.

“But with the turn of events which creates an impression that the problem is yet to be dealt with , one would wish that an explanation was offered yet there has not been any official communication to explain the cause of the recent power outages in the Region. “One customer from Adum said.

As part of the first story by wontumionline.com on the current frequent blackouts in Ashanti about two weeks ago a distraught consumer made a comment which we reproduced. It read: “Those disruptions were timed to coincide with the President’s address on all those two occasions The lights only came back after His Excellency had finished his delivery. This clearly exposed the intent and hidden agenda of the power distributors and their collaborators.”
