The New Patriotic Party would become a lame political party if it ceases to get the massive support it receives from the Ashanti Region, the Chief Executive Officer of Public Sector Reforms, Mr. Thomas Kusi Boafo has said.
In an interview on the Wontumi Morning Show, the renowned Ghanaian Economist, shot down statements by some people that the performance of the NPP in the Ashanti region in this year’s elections, was below par.
“I have heard some people saying that the performance of NPP in Ashanti Region was below par. This can never be true because if you should take out the performance of the NPP in Ashanti Region, in the next consecutive elections, the NPP can never win political power”, he explained.
In praising the region for winning his party political power, Mr. Kusi Boafo stated that “the votes that came from here in terms of percentages, no other region can give the NPP what this region has provided.”
He added that the NPP can only rely on Ashanti region and not the Volta region to help it win political power in the near future.
“If you take Volta region, it will take the party (NPP) 100 years before it comes closer to what the Ashanti region is doing”, he noted.
Knowing how crucial the Ashanti region is when it comes to deciding who becomes President of Ghana, Mr. Kusi Boafo explained that their main political opponent- the National Democratic Congress (NDC), invested heavily in the region before the 20202 elections.
“Both the NDC and NPP have serious interest in the region. We have had a lot of settlers here and if they are mostly NDC, it makes the work a little difficult for the NPP” he pointed out.
