Honorable Collins Owusu Amankwah is a Development and Security Consultant, a Business man and a Philanthropist.
With his in-depth knowledge in security, he had contributed immensely in helping government in developing policies in that area contributing in making the country peaceful and protecting the citizenry.
His prowess in politics, security and development led him to represent the people of Manhyia North during the sixth and seventh parliament of Ghana, chalking many successes in developing his constituents and the Constituency at large as he was the first Member of Parliament for the Constituency.
He played a lead role as the Vice Chairman of Defense and Interior committee of Parliament in passing the Security and Intelligence Agencies Act 2020 which sought to clarify roles of key actors in the National Security Architecture as there is the need to adequately respond to emerging national security challenges, taking cognizance of some significant matters not catered for in the previous law.
He is on record to have delivered several papers on maritime insecurity and piracy and he has travelled across the globe to deliver papers on respective discipline in the area of Security, Development, Legislature and Media.
As a politician and his commitment to his party, he has gone through the mill as he was a communicator representative to the NPP Campaign Office in 2008 and the Public Relations Officer of TESCON at the University of Ghana, Legon.
He was also the Director of Operations for the Ashanti Youth Incorporated, due to his dedication and hard work, he was elected to take the office of NPP Constituency Youth Organizer for the then Manhyia Constituency before serving as the first Member of Parliament for the Manhyia North Constituency which he served for 8 years.
His continuous commitment to his Party led him to contribute immensely in the victory 2020, as he developed and coordinated the Nana One project which sought to educate voters on how to vote right reducing the number of spoilt/rejected ballots in favor of his Party’s candidate, he again doubled as the secretary to the security sub-committee in Ashanti region and donated a pick-up for campaign to the Manhyia North Constituency Youth Wing.
He has chaired and established businesses in Ghana, with the passion of having a clean environment as it poses a positive impact on our health.
He established perfectly clean Ghana limited which its core-mandate was to champion the cleaning of Kumasi Township.
As an entrepreneur, and having the youth at heart, he continues to focus on developing the youth by creating opportunities targeted at giving them professional skills which helps them better their lives.
This earned him the title, the “people’s brother”, his love for people is unmatched and has unflinching desire in helping a fellow man.
His leadership Prowess and desire to achieve results, he was appointed a member of the ECOWAS parliament where he was a Rapporteur on the Health Committee.
He was the Board Member for Ghana Regional Appropriate Technology Industrial Service (GRATIS) foundation. During the 7th parliament, he chaired the Government Assurance Committee of Parliament, also he was the vice chairman of the Defense and Interior committee and a member of the committee of Roads and Transport of Ghana’s Parliament.
He was the member of the central entity committee of the National security.
In his quest to fight corruption he served as the Secretary for the African parliamentarian network against corruption where they sought to develop, maintain and promote a network to build the capacity of Parliamentarians in Africa to fight against and effectively address corruption.
During the 6th Parliament, Hon. Collins served on the Privileges Committee and the Select Committee on Environment, Science and Technology which his participation and contribution was felt in complimenting the efforts of the Executive Arm in achieving desired results pursuant to developing our country at large.
As young and affable as he was and his thirst for results, he was elected as the President of the Commonwealth Youth Parliament in Mmabatho, North West Province, South Africa during the 6th Parliament.
Hon. Collins holds a Master of Arts in Conflict, Peace and Security from KAIPTC, A Bachelor of laws (LLB) from GIMPA, Bachelor of Arts in sociology and philosophy from the University of Ghana, Legon, he has also a certificate in Cyber Security from (KAIPTC), Certificate in Disaster Management Bournemouth University (UK), Certificate in Public Financial Management System PFMS from the University Place Charlotte, North Carolina (USA) and certificate in managing defense in the wilder security context from Cranfield University (UK).
As a communicator and journalist Hon. Collins holds a Certificate in Media Management from Ghana Institute of Journalism.
Honorable Collins in his early stages in life worked with JAKWAPO Express ltd as a scale monitoring and control officer, he later moved on to be the events coordinator at ASHH FM then at OTEC FM, he was the event and promotions manager.
Hon. Collins was the executive director of Clean City Initiative Ghana and before he became a Member of Parliament his hard work in the media industry led him to become the general manager of All friends FM, Kumasi.
Hon Collins Owusu Amankwah is happily married with two children.
