The New Patriotic Party (NPP), Ahafo Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Kwabena Owusu Sekyere slams the Ga West Municipal Chief Executive Officer, Clement Nii Lamptey Wilkinson on his comment that the alleged stolen monies from Cecilia Dapaah’s home could be funeral donations, and asked if those donations were for Michael Jackson and Bob Marley funerals.
Reacting to the alleged stolen monies saga from the residence of Cecilia Dapaah, the chairman described such comments as an insult to Ghanaians and must be condemned.
“What kind of insult to say those monies are funeral donations because she just finished performing funeral rights of a brother and her mother, even when the world’s famous Michael Jackson and Bob Marley’s funerals did not receive any such windfall donations. It’s a total insult to Ghanaians when we make such comments”
But the Ahafo Regional Chairman says the comments by the MCE should be condemned
He said parliament or government shouldn’t appoint any committee to probe this but called on the OSP to investigate the former minister and prosecute her to serve as deterrent to other government appointees and politicians.
The position of the party is that, “we condemn the Minister’s act and we still entreat our people to keep investing in the Banks to boost our economy.”
Mr Owusu Sekyere continued, “If a minister keeps such monies in the house, who are you expecting to save in the banks to keep the economy growing, we shouldn’t defend this. I’m telling my party people and leaders of the party not to tolerate this.”
The Municipal Chief Executive Officer of the Ga West Municipality, Clement Nii Lamptey Wilkinson, has said that the stolen US$1m, €300K, GH¢350k from Cecilia Dapaah’s residence could have been funds from funeral donations.
According to him, the Minister of Sanitation for about a year now has lost two of her relatives and as a result, such huge amounts of money could be from the donations people gave to her during the funeral.
“Someone was asking why she has such an amount of money in her room. You see, for about a year now, mama Cecilia Dapaah has lost two relatives; her big brother died and we went for the funeral as well as her mother.”
Mr. Wilkinson contends that usually, the boxes used to collect funeral donations are not transparent like the normal ballot boxes we see during election time, adding that it could be possible that a company Cecilia Dapaah works with gave her 2 million dollars during the funeral.
