Western Togoland Brouhaha: Papavi Not Member Of Transvolta Togoland- Popular Historian Discloses
Popular Historian, Dr. Daniel Owusu Ansah, has revealed that, the leader of the Western Togoland, Charles Kormi Kudzordzi, aka Papavi is not a member of the Transvolta Togoland rather a member of the then Gold Coast.
He said that, Western Togoland was part of modern day Ghana lands.
The KNUST Lecturer who was speaking on the Youth’s Stake programme on Wontumi TV/Radio indicated that, some of the Ewe lands were among the Gold Coast lands.
“Different tribes are in the Volta Region. All those making the hullabaloo did not participate in the plebiscite in 1956.”
He explained that, the plebiscite was to decide if the the Trans Volta Togoland should be joined with soon to be independent Ghana.
But, however Historian, Dr. Owusu Ansah disclosed that, 58 percent of the people voted for with 42 percent voting against the decision.
“The Western Togoland is part of Gold Coast. The inhabitants are Ghanaians. It is not after independent and Dr.. Kwame Nkrumah asked them to join Ghana.” He told the host, Sammy Binfoh.
The ace historian noted that, the Transvolta Togoland was not catred by the Britain rather the Germans.
“When Germany lost the World War I, they handed over their weapons and France took over the current Togo country.” He revealed.
According to him, four blocks formed the nation Ghana, namely; Colony, Coastal block, Asante and the Northern territories.
