Small scale miners Association have deeply expressed worry over illegal miners involvement in river mining in Ghana.
According to the Association, they are totally against mining activities in rivers, and will ensure they clamp down on all mining in such forms immediately.
The Small Scale Miners, are, therefore, demanding a complete and immediate halt to illegal mining ravaging Ghana’s water bodies, vowing to patrol mining areas and arrest perpetrators to protect the environment.
According to the association, they are aware of the massive involvements of politicians who have recruited some foreigners, mainly from Togo, into the country for the purpose of doing river mining.
The motive by such politicians, who are providing financial and logistical resources to the galamseyers, according to the association, is to court public disaffection for the government and make it unpopular, in the lead up to the December polls.
The association’s task force on Wednesday September 11, 2024 stormed River Mankran in the Ahafo Ano South West District of the Ashanti Region, uncovering the extent of the illegal activities.
At the site of River Mankran, mining equipment were ceased, while others like “Chamfine” were burnt to ashes by the Association’s Tasks Force.
