“I come before you today not as a Minister but as the MP for Bantama”, were the humble words of Hon. Francis Asenso Boakye as he appealed to President Akufo-Addo to fix the struggling Neoplan Ghana Ltd.
In a video available to Wontumionline, the MP who doubles as the Minister for Works and Housing, could be heard stating that the ailing company used to be the backbone of Bantama’s economy.
According to him, the situation is different currently and people who used to work with the company have been laid off because of its current state.
Hon. Francis Asenso Boakye continued that since he was elected into office, he has personaly paid a working visit to Neoplan Ghana Ltd and there is nothing he can boast about.
He took the bold step of officially writing a letter to the Office of the President, to report what he has seen and request for an immediate action.
Commenting on steps being taken to address the issue, the minister stated that “the Trade minister has for some time now been working on the issue. As MP, I have paid a working visit to the place and I was sad. I even wrote a letter to you (President Akufo-Addo) and I am asking that government comes to support us so that it will increase job opportunities here.”
On his part, President Akufo-Addo urged the people of Bantama to exercise patience as his government works around to turn the story of Neoplan Ghana Ltd into a remarkable one.
“Today it is my son who is the MP here, I have nurtured him and he has become who is he is today. If he has worries, then it is my worries too. Have patience, things would turn around soon”, President Akufo-Addo assured.
