Today, April 8, marks the birthday of the late former United Nations Secretary-General, Kofi Annan, and to celebrate the occasion, the News Editor of Wontumi Multi-Media, Charles Brafo-Anakwah has called on Ghanaians not to allow the memory of the African global icon wither on the vine.

Mr. Brafo-Anakwah who used the occasion to outdoor a book he has authored, “I want to b like Kofi Annan, the African Global icon eulogized Kofi Annan as “the greatest African ever.”

Speaking on Wontumi TV Morning Show on Friday, he emphasized that the late UN Secretary-General will forever be remembered for his persistent efforts to chart a monumental path towards the attainment of global peace and security human development and the control of the spread of HIV/AIDS.

He, however, regretted that the failure of most Ghanaians to place a high premium on the achievements of the late UN Secretary-General which earned him global fame and the Nobel Peace Prize send signals that the Ghanaians have a problem when it comes to honouring the national heroes.”

He referred to Mr. Annan’s Millennium report which committed the members of the United Nations to a plan to eradicate poverty and inequality, improve education, control the spread of HIV AIDS and reduce tensions and conflicts within and among states.

He also referred to Kofi Annan’s report on the Global Compact involving leaders of the international business community, labour and civil society organisations to enable all people of the world to share the benefits of globalization.

Mr. Brafo-Anakwah lauded what he referred to as “the home-brewed education” the late Annan had which served as the foundation of his immense achievements.
He, therefore, urged Ghanaians not to downplay the relevance of the Free Senior High School initiative by the NPP government especially concerning its potential long term impact on the country’s human resource development.

“The free SHS is the greatest thing to happen to Ghana after the attainment of the country’s independence.” He noted.
