(VIDEO+PICTURES) Water Ways Wrongly Directed To Pave Way For Road Construction

Has it ever occurred to you that a green environment when depleted is deadly to your habitation on earth?

Okay, how about the blocking of waterways and the misdirection of a drainage or river all in the name of building construction or better still a road construction?

Nearly all land areas are seeing more hot days and heat waves; 2020 was one of the hottest years on record.

Higher temperatures increase heat-related illnesses and can make it more difficult to work and move around.

Waterways get choked as a result of unnecessary dumping of garbage and refuse and the end results during a raining season becomes disastrous and regrettable.

Wildfires start more easily and spread more rapidly when conditions are hotter.

Changes in temperature cause changes in rainfall. This results in more severe and frequent storms.

They cause flooding and landslides, destroying homes and communities, and costing billions of cedis.

As a way to sensitize our readers, we roamed the metropolis to catch glimpse of wetlands that have been destroyed for building construction or the waterways misdirected from it’s natural flow.

One could clearly tell that these areas have either been sold cheaply or contractors clandestinely opting for such a bad idea.

The effects of misdirecting waterways is so enormous yet people sit on the fence.

The flooding in Kumasi has cost people their lives, families and properties.

The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has blamed the cause of these floods on buildings erected in waterways.

In June, 2021, a three-day torrential rain in Kumasi left on its trail destruction of property and seven people confirmed dead.
