A scientific research by Prof Smart Sarpong points to the flat rate tax system resonating well with the business communities in Ghana.
“They know about flat rate. There is a business man planning on buying things from Dubai, and he is telling his business partner to hold on and ship the consignment in January when the flat rate kicks in”, he said.
Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has explained that his flat rate system initiative will simplify tax administration by providing taxpayers with visibility into their tax obligations.
Additionally, he stated that a flat rate will make it easier for businesses to file and pay their taxes, thereby propelling growth.
In a studio interview on the Wontumi Morning Show on Wontumi TV, Prof. Smart Sarpong stated that the business communities in Ghana have been weighing their option and due to issues of importation, they are buying into the flat rate system, similar to Estonia’s model.
“I have covered the entire country, all the business districts where there is importation, they are asking for alternatives.
Prof Smart Sarpong added that the flat rate tax system is forming the minds of people in the business communities.
“In conclusion I am happy that this years’ election is issue based”, he added.
