(VIDEO) NDC’s Application To Injunct Implementation Of E-levy Was Dead On Arrival- Legal Practitioner
A Private Legal Practitioner, Nana Obiri Boahen, has said that the NDC’s case to challenge the passing of the Electronic Transactions Levy (E-levy) at the Supreme Court was dead on arrival.
Lawyer Nana Obiri Boahen affirmed that it was not surprising the Supreme Court in a unanimous decision dismissed the application.
By a unanimous 7-0 decision, the Supreme Court dismissed the application for an injunction against the implementation of the E-levy.
Participating in Wontumi TV Morning Show, he said it was a face-saving measure by the NDC to drag the implementation to court.
The NPP Deputy General Secretary said the NDC never thought there will be passage of the E-levy.
He said the E-levy implementation passed through Parliamentary procedures and Akufo-Addo granted Presidential assent to it.
“In principle, I like the E-levy, not in a sense am an NPP member but the claims by government to use as funds mobilisation for development.”
Lawyer Obiri Boahen stated he is happy the apex court has directed the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) to preserve the records generated since the levy’s implementation on May 1, 2022.
