A group that has the blessing of former President John Dramani Mahama, Victory for Mahama, have issued a statement backing their leader’s move to support the “Fix The Country” demonstrators with GHC4 million.
According to the group, it has become necessary for the 2020 flagbearer for the National Democratic Congress to support the demonstrators rather than spend on the party currently.
They claim the impending demo, has gathered momentum and it would be wise to sponsor them rather than rely on the NDC to start a demo.
It must be noted that the Accra Regional Police Command says the planned ‘Fix the Country’ demonstration cannot be held due to the imposition of restrictions on public gatherings and demonstrations.
Public Relations Officer for the Regional Police Command ASP Effia Tenge confirmed that they received a letter from the organizers over the planned protest.
However, the Police she says cannot provide them with the protection they need due to the restrictions, and the organizers would be organizing the planned protest at their own risk.
