Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia launches “Tap n Go” initiative

The “Tap and Go” initiative is a groundbreaking digital initiative for the transport sector. This innovative payment system aims to revolutionize the way Ghanaians pay for transport fares.

Drawing inspiration from the Oyster Card used in the United Kingdom, Tap and Go is a digital card preloaded with cash. Passengers will simply swipe the card on a fixed electronic machine on the bus to pay for their fares. You can either use the physical cards or download the virtual platform on your mobile phone as well.

This will allow them to make direct payments through their phones with their momo accouns, reducing the usage of physical cash which reiterates the Vice president’s vision of a cashless system.

By formalizing the transport sector through this well-structured and tested technology, the initiative aims to benefit drivers, transport owners, and the general public alike.

State-owned transport agencies such STC,VIP,Electric buses will also be included as time goes on as Metro Mass Transit Limited has been the first point of action.

This launch demonstrates Ghana’s dedication to adopting digital solutions and utilizing technical breakthroughs to propel economic progress. The country moves one step closer to creating a more contemporary and efficient transportation system with the implementation of the Tap and Go system.
