The paramount Chief of the Dormaa Traditional Area Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Dr. Agyemang Badu II has spoken out against the Central Bank’s new head office project which has been valued at US$250m according to the Minority in parliament’s own estimates.
The Dormaahene, who doubles as a High Court judge, lamented that time was not ripe for the Bank of Ghana (BoG) to expend such huge sums of money on building an office complex.
Nana Agyemang Badu II expressed these sentiments during the 2023 First General Meeting of the Bono Regional House of Chiefs at the Bono regional conference hall, Sunyani. The event coincided with the enstoolment of Osabarima Asiedu Kotwi as the Chief of Kwatwoman and a member of the regional house of Chiefs.
He emphasized that it is unfathomable for the Central Bank of Ghana “to spend US$250m” for the building of a new office complex while part of such a huge amount of money could have been given to Nananom in the country to steer the affairs of the various chieftaincy associations for effective development.
The Dormaahene stressed that he would have demolished the newly constructed building if he had the powers or capacity because it is a waste of the country’s resources.
The newly enstooled Chief, Osabrima Asiedu Kotwi, Chief of Kwatwoman and a member of the Bono regional house of chiefs explained the effects of chieftaincy disputes on community development with the justification that chieftaincy litigations derail growth and improvement of lives hence the need to end all litigations among chiefs’
Nana Kotwi called for a united front to help fight for a common goal to ensure citizens and the entire communities are well-developed.
The Bono Regional Minister, Madam Justina Owusu Banahene also shared her thoughts with newsmen.
