Socrates Safo mentioned to Caleb Nii Boye that only comedians who do not understand the art terrain will go hungry.
He added that comedians should always be on the lookout for gathering where they can exhibit their stuff or risk going extinct in the industry.
“I don’t see why a comedian should sit on a weekend without doing anything when you have pubs and bars all over. Even if I get 500 cedis. It will buy fuel for the week. Some may pay my light bill at home until I do the big stage. So you take your jokes all around every weekend.
“By the next year, you will have a new set of jokes that you are taking around. This is how you make money from the arts. If you understand the job, an artiste will never go hungry.”
Socrates Safo also advised comedians to elevate their craft to make it more appealing to the audience and corporate organisations looking to invest as sponsors.
“Comedians must also now start adding commercial wings to their acts. It looks like they are just having fun. What do you add to the show?” he concluded.
Before starting the conversation, Socrates had nothing but glowing words for Ghanaian comedian OB Amponsah who recently staged Ghana By Card show. He praised the comedian for his excellent content and crowd-control skills.
