Unpaid Teachers Demand Clarity On Omitted Salary Arrears In Petition To GES

A group known as the Coalition of Unpaid Teachers and Arrears-Ghana has petitioned the Ghana Education Service (GES), expressing concern over the exclusion of some salary arrears from recently approved payments for staff.

In a letter dated April 20, 2026, addressed to the Director-General of GES, the coalition acknowledged efforts by the Ministry of Finance and GES management to settle part of the outstanding arrears covering August 2024 to November 2025.

However, the group raised concerns over the omission of arrears accrued between late 2023 and July 2024, describing the development as unfair to many affected teachers.

According to the coalition, a significant number of staff continue to face financial hardship due to delays in the payment of their full entitlements.

“The exclusion of these months creates a gap that leaves many affected staff without full redress of their legitimate entitlements,” the petition stated, jointly signed by the Secretary, Nana Yaw Yeboah, and President Daniel Akatuk.

The group is therefore calling on authorities to clarify the status of the unpaid arrears and consider including them in subsequent payment schedules.

They also urged GES to clearly communicate timelines for the settlement of all outstanding payments to restore confidence among affected staff.

The coalition believes a comprehensive resolution of the issue will improve staff morale and strengthen trust in the administration of the Service.
