A staunch Muslim leader and an executive of the Great Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP), Kofi Owusu Omar, has observed that there is an unhealthy division in the Muslim community due to certain comments former President John Mahama has made.
The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the GCPP in an interview on the Wontumi Morning Show noted that the leader of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) never held a consensus with Islamic leaders in Ghana before coming out to talk about building mortuaries for them.
Chairman Owusu Omar pointed out that the mortuary plans by the flagbearer and leader of the NDC, was disrespectful to Muslims and for that reason they would massively vote against him in the 2020 elections.
“God willing John Mahama would lose the 2020 elections. When did you (Mahama) have a consensus with Muslims to know we need morgues in our communities? We will be praying against John Maham because he is bringing unhealthy division to Islam”, the GCPP Chairman noted on the show which was monitored by Wontumionline.com.
Former President John Dramani Mahama, has been widely condemned for revealing that if voted for, he would build more mortuaries for the Muslim communities.
He pledged in an interview on minor tv outlet that the next (NDC) administration will build more mortuaries in the Zongo communities.
According to him, this forms part of the numerous intervention programmes which the NDC plans to put in place to develop Zongos and deprived communities when he takes over the governance of this nation in 2021.
In his view, the mortuaries will help preserve the dead in Zongo areas.
But many have considered his pledged for the Zongo communities as condemnable considering the how Muslims treat dead bodies.
