UEL Semi-Finals: Villarreal vs Arsenal And Manchester United vs Roma
After taking charge of Arsenal between May 2018 and November 2019, Villarreal boss Unai Emery will be back at the Emirates to take on his former club in the Europa League semi-finals.
The Spanish coach has won the competition three times – 2014, 2015 and 2016 – all with Sevilla, and reached the final in 2019 with Arsenal, though his side were beaten by Chelsea in Baku.
Villarreal, now led by Emery, are into their fourth ever semi-final in the Europa League having previously made the same stage in 2004, 2011 and 2016, though never reached the final.
The tie against Arsenal is a re-match of the 2006 Champions League semi-final which the Gunners won 1-0 on aggregate with Juan Roman Riquelme having an 88th minute penalty saved by Jens Lehmann. Now, the Yellow Submarine have a chance for revenge 15 years later.
The other Europa League semi-final sees Manchester United take on Roma as the Reds look to repeat their 2017 triumph in the competition.
