UCL: Liverpool defeat Real Madrid, Aston Villa hold Juventus

Liverpool continued their superb start to the campaign with a 2-0 win over Real Madrid in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

The Reds have now won all five games so far in the competition.

The first half ended goalless before Alexis MacAllister drilled in the opener past Thibaut Courtois.

Both Kylian Mbappe and Mohamed Salah missed from the penalty spot. Then Cody Gakpo added a second from a corner-kick.

Madrid, who are the current holders, have now won only two games in the Champions League.

Morgan Rogers saw a last-gasp goal ruled out by VAR as Aston Villa played out a 0-0 draw with Juventus.

Benfica won 3-2 at Monaco, Celtic played out a 1-1 draw with Club Brugge and PSV edged Shakhtar Donetsk 3-2.
