Two Face Court Over Alleged Robbery And Assault On Ashaiman Trader

Two young men have been arraigned before a court for allegedly robbing and assaulting a 29-year-old trader during an attack at Ashaiman in the Greater Accra Region.

The accused persons, identified by police as 18-year-old Mohammed Saad and 19-year-old Aaron Tetteh, are alleged to have attacked the complainant, Annette Bless Mantebea, in the early hours of June 13, 2026.

According to police investigations, the incident occurred at about 2:00 am near the Ashaiman Pesewa Plaza area while the complainant was walking in the vicinity.

A report by myjoyonline.com on June 18, 2026, indicated that Mohammed Saad allegedly assaulted the trader and attempted to snatch her handbag containing GH¢300.

Police said the complainant managed to hold on to her handbag during the struggle.

However, the suspect allegedly succeeded in taking her Tecno Pop 8 mobile phone valued at GH¢1,000 before attempting to flee.

Investigators further alleged that Aaron Tetteh was waiting nearby on a black Royal Eagle motorbike with registration number M-25-GT 1028 to aid their escape after the robbery.

With the assistance of some young men in the area, Mohammed Saad was apprehended at the scene, while Aaron Tetteh allegedly escaped on the motorbike.

The complainant sustained injuries during the attack, including damage to her front teeth.

She was subsequently issued a police medical report form and sought treatment at the Ashaiman Municipal Hospital, where a medical report confirmed that she had been assaulted.

Police investigations later led to the arrest of Aaron Tetteh on June 15, 2026, after the father of Mohammed Saad reportedly escorted him to the police station and identified him as an alleged accomplice in the robbery.

According to investigators, Aaron Tetteh later assisted police in efforts to locate the alleged owner of the motorbike believed to have been used in the attack. However, neither the owner nor the motorbike was found.

Police said both accused persons gave caution statements during the investigation and allegedly admitted to participating in the robbery.

The complainant’s mobile phone and handbag have since been recovered and retained by police as exhibits.

The two accused persons have been charged with robbery-related offences and have been formally arraigned before the court. The case has been adjourned for further proceedings.
