Two Christ the King SHS students injured in machete attack after final exams

Two students of Christ the King Senior High School in Obuasi are receiving treatment after they were injured in a machete attack on the school’s campus.

The attack is reported to have happened shortly after final year students completed their final examination paper, leaving students and staff shaken.

The school’s headmaster, Owusu Gyimah, said the attackers were believed to be part of a group of young men from the nearby communities of Pomposo, Akaporiso and Tutuka. He alleged that some students of the school were linked to the group.

According to him, the group had on several occasions attempted to enter the campus to harass female students but had been prevented from doing so by members of the school’s cadet corps.

Mr Gyimah said tensions escalated after student members of the group identified cadet leaders who had consistently blocked their activities.

He said the situation eventually led to the violent invasion of the school, during which two students sustained machete wounds.

Describing the incident as disturbing, the headmaster said many students were now living in fear and appealed for stronger security measures to protect the school community.

Police have launched investigations into the attack and are working to identify and arrest those responsible.

No arrests have been made so far. However, some residents say they can identify individuals believed to be connected to the incident.

Meanwhile, students and staff are calling for urgent security interventions, including a permanent police presence and the fencing of the school to prevent further intrusions and restore calm on campus.
