The Youth Must Be Prioritized – Louisa Atta-Agyemang To African Leaders

President of the Young Democrat Union of Africa (YDUA), H.E. Louisa Atta-Agyemang has stated that there is the need to prioritize as a matter of urgency, issues of the youth especially when it has to do with governance and leadership.

She made these remarks during her opening address at the opening ceremony of this year’s YDUA held in Lilongwe-Malawi.

The conference which has been themed, MOVING FROM ASPIRATIONS TO ACTIONS, YOUNG PEOPLE ENGAGEMENT IN NATIONAL, CONTINENTAL AND GLOBAL POLITICS, has drawn delegates and speakers from all over Africa and Europe. With some very key figures such as Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the Vice President of Ghana, Eisenhower Mkaka, the Foreign Affairs Minister of Malawi and Secretary-General of the Malawi Congress Party.

The rest include Chief Advisor to the Malawian President on Public Policy and Governance,
Dr Samson Lembani, the Chairman of the Democrat Union of Africa and Leader of Namibia’s opposition, Hon McHenry Venaani, former NPP Campaign Manager and current Board Chairman of COCOBOD Ghana, Peter Mac Manu, Mr Samuel Awuku, National Organizer of NPP and Director General of the National Lotteries Authority.

Others are Dr Holger Dix, Director of the Regional Programme Political Dialogue for Sub-Sahara Africa Konrad Adenauer Foundation, Hon Olivia Liwewe, Electoral Commissioner of Malawi, Prof Mario Voigt of the CDU Germany participating in the opening ceremony.

In her address, she bemoaned the situation of political oppression of various opposition parties across the continent especially in Tanzania, stating that it is retrogressively inimical to the democracy of the continent.

She further called upon various stakeholders to make the youth the focus in policy development since they are the majority in the continent.

The conference is expected to last for 4 days, from 4th to 8th October 2021, with various high profiled dignitaries and international media commending the leadership of the union for an organized conference.

Ghana’s Vice President, Dr Bawumia who delivered the keynote address was full of praise for the young female leader for her brave steps towards promoting youth engagement and democracy on the continent.
