The Child Of Charcoal Seller Should Be Able To Afford Hostel- AAMUSTED SRC President
The astronomical increase in hostel prices has been a huge burden to most of students at the tertiary institutions.
On Friday, 16th July, 2021, some students of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) had a peaceful demonstration against the abnormal increase in the hostel prices.
According to the Student Representative Council (SRC) President for Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training And Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED), Richard Opoku, there should be a collective responsibility for all the tertiary institutions to plead for government’s intervention.
He said that, if they plead for reduction of the hostel prices, the child of the charcoal seller will be able to afford accommodation price to continue their studies.
“If government intervenes for the hostel managers to reduce the prices, we will all smile,” he told Oheneba Nana Asiedu on Wontumi/TV Morning Show.
He, however, appealed to the various University authorities to augment the security outside the campus.
The AAMUSTED SRC President suggested that, the Institutions should get volunteers to protect the students to make learning comfortable.
