Takoradi, Dec. 17, GNA – The Western Regional Directorate of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), has so far administered about 290,000 doses of cholera vaccines out of a targeted 641,851 to persons aged one year and above within the first two days of its Cholera Vaccination campaign. The campaign is being carried out within four identified hotspots areas in the region. The campaign, which commenced on Sunday, December 15, and would end on Thursday, December 29, 2024, is aimed at offering immunity and protection against cholera infections for residents within Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis, Effia-Kwesimintsim, Shama and Ahanta West municipalities. The Western Regional Co-ordinating Council (WRCC) has directed Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to institute stringent measures to curb the surge in cholera cases in the Region. A statement signed by Mr Stephen Quarshie, Acting Regional Co-ordinating Director, and copied to the Ghana News Agency, said the cholera outbreak in the Region had affected eight MMDAs, with 908 cases and 10 deaths recorded. It said the situation required that the Public Health Emergency Response Teams in all MMDAs be constituted and resourced to enable them to execute their mandates within the guidelines provided by the Ghana Health Service (GHS).…

The Western Region has so far recorded 15 deaths from the cholera outbreak with Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis and Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipality as the epicentres. The Deputy Regional Director in charge of Public Health, Dr Gifty Amugi disclosed this on Adom FM’s morning show Dwaso Nsem Monday. According to her, over 1,000 people have reported to various health facilities with symptoms, including diarrhoea and vomiting. The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has confirmed a case of monkeypox in the Bia West District of the Western North Region. The case involves a 15-year-old male who sought treatment at a district government hospital on September 25, 2024, presenting with a three-day history of fever, general body pains, a sore throat, and a rash, which initially appeared on his palms and face. Hundreds of travelers have been left stranded at the Ewusiejoe stretch of the Agona Nkwanta to Takoradi road in the Western Region for the past two days. According to some eyewitnesses two heavy-duty trucks have blocked areas close to the Ewusiejoe Bridge as they have been stuck in big ruts on the road.
