WAPCo Prepares For Offshore Pipeline Cleaning, Inspection From February 5

The West African Gas Pipeline Company Limited (WAPCo) has announced plans to commence mandatory cleaning and inspection of its offshore pipeline from February 5 to March 2, 2025, in compliance with regulatory requirements. The company has begun installing the necessary equipment, including an effluent management system for the project. The activity, known as pipeline inspection gauge (PIG), involves cleaning pipelines to remove debris, dirt and liquids as well as inspecting the pipeline’s internal walls. WAPCo Reschedules Offshore Pipeline Maintenance To February 3

The West African Gas Pipeline Company Limited (WAPCo) has revised the start date for its offshore pipeline cleaning and inspection exercise, commonly referred to as “pigging.” Initially slated for January 20, 2025, the operation will now commence on February 3, 2025, to better accommodate stakeholder interests. In a statement issued on Wednesday, January 14, WAPCo announced that the four-week exercise will involve the temporary suspension of reverse gas flow from Ghana’s Western Region to Tema, as well as the shutdown of key facilities in Tema, Lomé (Togo), and Cotonou (Benin). Update on Power Outages Across the Country

As of 10pm yesterday, 10th January, power was restored to the entire country. Wapco suspended the restriction on gas supply after high-level meetings and agreement reached between Wapco and the government. There is no dumsor in Ghana and no one is hiding anything from the good people of Ghana. Currently, we have an installed capacity of 5,138 MW and our peak demand as at 11 December 2023 is 3,618 MW. There is excess capacity to take care of all ongoing maintenance in Tapco, Tico and Akosombo. Wapco issued a letter to GNPC on 8th December for outstanding payments in December.…

WAPCo Undertakes Emergency Shutdown

The West African Gas Pipeline Company (WAPCo) will be carrying out a “coordinated” and “planned” emergency shutdown at its Tema Regulating and Metering Station on Sunday, July 16. The exercise will be undertaken between 9:00am and 3:00pm. This is a requirement as “part of measures to ensure safe and reliable operations of the pipeline”.
