Volta Lake Breaks Banks; 2,500 Residents Displaced

The Volta Lake has broken its banks leading to the displacement of 2,500 residents from nine communities within the Pru East District. The victims comprise 1,302 males and females 1,252, according to the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO). Communities affected are Kobre Nsuano, Pentecost Nsuano, Adiembra, Fanteakura, Tokobikope, Tonka, Agokope, Logakope and others. A lifeless male body has been discovered floating on the Volta Lake at Asutuare in the Shai-Osudoku District of the Greater Accra region. The deceased is believed to be one of the Chinese engaged in tilapia farming on the lake. Sailor Gabriel Ajigodi, who was at the helm Saturday morning when his boat capsized on the Volta Lake, is in the grips of the police, 3news.com can confirm. He is currently in custody at the Ada Foah Police Station, where he is being interrogated over the deadly voyage. 8 Pupils Drown In Volta Lake

Eight school children have drowned in the Volta Lake following a boat disaster in the Sene East District of the Bono East Region. According to the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), the deceased were among 20 pupils who were in the boat travelling from Atikagome to Wayokope, where their school is located.
