President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo announced that, government will rename the Kumasi and Tamale International airports. The Kumasi International Airport will be renamed the Nana Agyeman Prempeh I International Airport, while the recently inaugurated airport in Tamale will be called the Yakubu Tali International Airport. Government Likely To Open Tamale Airport In August – Report

Barring any unforeseen circumstances, government will in August this month inaugurate the Tamale International Airport, according to a Citi News report. The airport, which was constructed at an estimated cost of $70 million was expected to be completed in August 2022 but work had to be stalled due to some technical constraints. The construction of Phase two of the Tamale Airport Development Project has been completed at a cost of US$70 million and awaiting commissioning by the end of this year. The 5,000-square metre airport, with an annual passenger throughput of 400,000 capacity, is expected to boost the local economy, tourism and investment drive to the Northern Region.
