The University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) has officially suspended its strike action against illegal mining, commonly referred to as ‘galamsey’. The strike, which began on October 10, 2024, was initiated to fight the severe environmental impact of galamsey on the country’s water bodies, forest reserves as well as the livelihoods of people in the affected communities.
