Ghana Police Fined GH¢100k For Refusing RTI Commission’s Orders

The Ghana Police Service has been fined GH¢100,000 for refusing to obey the Right to Information (RTI) Commission’s directive granting an applicant access to requested information. The Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative (CHRI), Africa, had written a letter asking for information on the status of cases involving police brutality. RTI Commission Says Cost Of Akufo-Addo’s Private Jet Rentals Can’t Be Disclosed

The Right to Information (RTI) Commission has ruled that information on President Akufo-Addo’s travels on both private and state-owned presidential jets, and the accompanying cost incurred, should not be made public. The Commission said such information falls under the exempted information specified in section 5 of the RTI law. The RTI Commission cited national security concerns for its ruling.
