Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, the nation's first president, declared Ghana's independence from colonial rule to be a critical turning point in the history of the country's leadership. Annual celebrations begin on March 6 and include a variety of events that span the entire month, both within Ghana and among its expatriate population.
