The Northern Region has recorded 106 fire outbreaks in the first quarter of 2023. It is estimated that these fires cost damage to properties worth GH₵898,385. This is a decrease of 36.53% in fire outbreaks for the period under review as against 167 fire outbreaks with a cost of damage to properties at GH₵1,257760.2 for the same period in 2022. The cost of items salvaged from these fires amounted to GH₵18,946,131 for 2023 as against GH₵4,037,727 for the same period in 2022. A 78.69% increase in items salvaged was recorded in 2023. Northern Regional Minister Launches Ayalolo In Tamale

The Northern Regional Minister, Alhaji Shani Alhassan Saibu, has launched the Rapid Bus Transit Services (Ayalolo), a state initiated public transport, to formally begin operations in the Region. The move is to help reduce public transportation challenges facing residents of the Tamale Metropolis. There are five 40-seater buses, and the pickup points for the buses will be beneath the Tamale Overhead to T-Poly, Point 7 to Vittin and Anbariya Senior High School, PK Gombillah to Savelugu, Quality First to UDS Tamale Campus and from Aboabo Commercial Bank to Nyankpala. The Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has, on Monday June 13, 2022 cut the sod for the construction of a 167-kilometer highway from Tamale through Yendi to Tatale in the Northern Region. The massive highway, which has significant portions of it untarred for decades under successive governments, forms part of the Eastern Corridor road linking major towns in the Northern, North East, Upper East, Oti, Volta and Greater Accra Regions.
