Techiman Area NEDCo Records 17.9% Revenue Loses In 2022

The Techiman Operational Area of the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo) recorded 17.9 per cent revenue loses through energy theft and illegal connection in 2022, Mr John Mumuni Tayari, the area Manager of the company has stated. Nedco Owed GH¢1.2 Billion By Customers; Spends GH¢120 Million Monthly

Electricity consumers owed the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo), a subsidiary of the Volta River Authority (VRA), about GH¢1.2 billion as at January 2023. NEDCo, which also owes its parent company VRA GH¢1.6 billion for power purchased, says it spends GH¢120 million every month to make electricity available to consumers; but is only able to recoup GH¢85 million monthly due to power theft and non-payment by consumers. The staff of the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo) are demanding the removal of the Managing Director, Osmani Aludiba Ayuba after accusing him of non-performance. In a petition presented to the Board of Directors of the company, the staff cited among other things the “worse financial performance of NEDCo, lack of a clear strategy for the company, exorbitant sole source procurement of point-of-sale devices and worsening distribution losses,” to back their demand.
