Nigeria To Close Land Borders On Election Day

Nigeria has ordered the closure of all its land borders during Saturday’s tightly contested elections. The directive is meant to ensure that the “elections are free, fair and devoid of anomalies”, the Nigeria Immigration Service said. Border officials have been told to ensure strict enforcement of the order. The authorities in Nigeria’s Imo state have been asked to arrest a man who allegedly assaulted and broke the arm of his two-month-old baby. The 31-year-old man is reported to have assaulted his baby with a plastic cloth hanger for disturbing his sleep. 19 of the Sub-Saharan Africa region’s 35 low-income countries are in debt distress or at high risk of distress, the International Monetary Fund has stated in its October 2022 Regional Outlook Report.
