Public Urged To Be Concerned About Compulsory Fire Insurance

The National Insurance Commission (NIC) and Ghana Fire Service have embarked on compulsory fire and insurance enforcement activities at commercial properties and premises in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis. This sensitisation and enforcement activity was to find out the compliance level of property owners and occupiers in accordance with sections 218 and 219 of the Insurance Act 2021, Act 1061. In total, 20 commercial properties and premises including hospitals, schools, hotels, marts, fuel stations and offices were visited. About 98% Of Insurers Meet Minimum Capital Requirement

About 98 percent of insurance companies have met the new minimum capital requirement of the National Insurance Commission (NIC). The regulator in June 2019 announced new minimum capital requirements for players in the insurance space. It increased the minimum capital requirement for life and non-life companies from GH¢15 million to GH¢50 million, while that of reinsurance companies was raised from GH¢40 million to GH¢125 million. The National Insurance Commission (NIC) is to roll out an insurance programme to insure small-scale businesses to protect their businesses.
